Why Context Matters in Architecture
A building that could stand anywhere usually belongs nowhere. Notes on how we read a site.

Reading before drawing
Every site already has an order: a slope, a prevailing wind, a line of trees, a neighbour’s wall. Our first visits are spent recording those things, because they are cheaper to follow than to fight.
Context is also cultural. Local building habits exist for good reasons, and they often point to the right roof, the right wall, and the right way to meet the ground.
Fitting in without imitating
Respecting a place does not mean copying it. We look for the underlying logic of what is nearby, such as scale, rhythm, and material, and answer it in a contemporary way.
The result should feel inevitable in hindsight: a building that seems as though it was always meant to be there.
